Dundee United boss Peter Houston has handed the club captain”s armband to Jon Daly.
The Tannadice gaffer is hoping the Irish centre-forward can fill the leadership void left following the departure of Andy Webster back to Rangers and the loss of Lee Wilkie to retirement as United begin preparations for the upcoming SPL campaign as well as appearing in the Europa League.
Houston made the decision despite usually preferring his skipper to play in defence or midfield as well as knowing that Daly will not be slow in knocking his door to say his piece.
“Jon is the outstanding candidate for the captain’s job,” said Houston.
“He is not afraid to speak his mind or to let people know what he thinks and he is respected by everyone at the club.”
A delighted Daly said, “If the boys want me to talk to the gaffer, then I will be happy to knock on his door for them.
“I will try to be a leader both on and off the park.”
