‘There’s unfinished business here’ Carl Finnigan fired up for Dundee return

Carl Finnigan has been formally unveiled as a Dundee player and quickly revealed he has unfinished business at the club.

The striker made a big impact last season for the Dark Blues while on loan from St Johnstone, netting three goals in five games before suffering a knee injury that required surgery.

Now, the 25-year-old Englishman is determined to make a similar but longer-lasting impression to help the Dens Park side finally return to the SPL.

Finnigan said: ”I’m delighted to be back here on a permanent basis. Obviously, the season I had at St Johnstone wasn’t great as I wasn’t playing a lot.

”So it was great to have the opportunity to come here and play on loan. It was a breath of fresh air to me, especially with the way the team play.

”I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere at the club so it was an easy decision to come back. I didn’t have to think twice about it.

”I was obviously gutted when I got injured and knew my season was over as I still felt I had a lot to give to the team.

”As soon as the injury happened, I was just praying that I’d done enough here to get the chance to come back.

”There were a few other things in the pipeline but this was always my first choice to come to Dundee. Basically there’s unfinished business here. By the time I came to the club last season, Ross County had more or less run away with the title.

”It was a shame we weren’t closer to challenging but I can’t wait for a fresh start to get up where we want to be challenging for the league.”

Finnigan will fight for a place in the Dundee starting line-up with Steven Milne, Leighton McIntosh and another new signing John Baird.

And Finnigan admitted he is looking forward to linking up with the former Raith striker.

He said: ”I know John from playing against him for Falkirk and I always thought highly of him both as a player and a goalscorer. I think with his attributes and mine, we could work well together and I am looking forward to meeting up with him in pre-season.”

Dundee chief executive Scot Gardiner spoke of his joy at landing the ex-Newcastle youth.

He said: ”We are delighted that we have managed to get Carl on a permanent basis. It is a good move for us and we are very pleased about it.”
