Dundee United winger Ryan Dow says the Tangerines are desperate to take their Fir Park frustration out on Aberdeen.
Standing in the tunnel and determined to put their heavy defeat to Inverness behind them, a power cut put paid to United’s hopes of facing and beating Motherwell.
The dramatic late postponement of that fixture and the international break ensured United would have to wait three long weeks to attempt to make up for that 4-0 hammering in the Highlands.
That has been too long for Dow and his colleagues and there is determination to get out there to play the Dons at Tannadice on Saturday.
”It was extremely disappointing what happened at Motherwell,” said Dow. ”We had worked so hard that week in training and everyone was really raring to go. It was all about trying to get that bad result at Inverness the week before out of our system. We felt good and to have it postponed 10 minutes before kick-off left us all kick our heels in frustration.”
The squad have used their time to put in extra work on the training pitch and he has no complaints about that.
”It’s not a punishment,” he said. ”We all love coming into training in order to make things better. We are working on all aspects of our game which will hopefully see us reap the benefits. We need to get back to basics. That could kick-start our season again if we can beat Aberdeen on Saturday.
”It’s always good to welcome Aberdeen down here. They can be special occasions. They will bring a big crowd down, which will add to the atmosphere. So it would be the ideal way to start turning things round if we can get the three points which we all want.”
Dow is looking to stay in the side and help fill the gap left by injured star man Gary Mackay-Steven.
He said: ”It’s nice being back in the team but I know there’s more to come from me personally. It’s all about confidence and getting a run of games. Once you get into the team, you have to hold on to your place and then hopefully do the business.”
