Forfar picked the perfect moment to get back to winning ways as they booked their place in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup with a spirited and deserved comeback against Ayr United.
A cracking cup tie saw open, flowing play from both sides, with the pendulum swinging in favour of both sides almost as much as the ball found its way from one end of Station Park to the other.
Home manager Dick Campbell made no bones about just how important it was for Forfar to have secured a fifth-round spot.
“It is a massive result for us. The most important thing in the cup is just to get into the next round and we have done that,” he said.
“I thought we had lost our way a bit in the first half and at the interval we were quite critical of them. But we held on and scored a good equaliser and came right back into the game before Charlie King got his first goal of the season for us for the winner.
“They had a few chances but we showed spirit and character to get back. Hopefully this sends a message out that we are getting back to the form we were in at the start of the season.”
As well as King’s winner, Forfar had a huge thank you to pay to their two loan signing debutants Willie Robertson, who smashed home the equaliser after Ayr had gone ahead through David Sinclair, and Hearts keeper Jack Hamilton, who produced some fantastic saves to keep Forfar in the game.
