Dundee’s Paul McGowan lamented that his side could have taken all three points against Inverness if the Dark Blues had not been denied a penalty late on.
With just three minutes to go, the former St Mirren man had tried to play the ball back across goal only to see it handled by Caley’s Greg Tansey.
However, referee Stephen Finnie was not convinced a decision that perplexed McGowan.
He said: “We had chances to win it. They had a lot of the ball but they never really caused us a lot of problems.
“We had a real steeliness tonight. People have been going on about the good football we have played but we showed the other side of our game tonight.
“We need that in abundance as games aren’t all about being pretty. We dug deep and we could have won it.
“A photographer has just shown me that he (Tansey) has his hand on the ball. It is difficult to understand these decisions sometimes.
“James McPake was just behind him and would have had a tap-in with his head. He has stopped a goalscoring opportunity.
“Still to get a point shows the character of the boys and how far we have come. It was not the worst result but on another day we could have had all three points.”
McGowan’s boss Paul Hartley also agreed there should have been a penalty awarded to his team, but admitted he was still happy to come away from the Highlands with a point.
He said: “I am pleased as Inverness is a hard place to come to. A lot of teams will struggle up here but I am pleased especially with the second half when I thought we created the better chances.”
