Speculation linking Paul Hartley as the shock successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Cardiff City boss is growing.
Hartley’s odds of taking the role plummeted from 50/1 outsider at the start of Wednesday to clear 2/5 favourite with bookmakers today, as the Bluebirds launched their hunt for a new manager.
And sources in Wales have suggested Cardiff have already made contact with the 37-year-old’s agent.
Solskjaer’s departure hasn’t actually yet been officially confirmed but it is believed to be a certainty following a dismal run of results.
Controversial Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan is keen to make a quick appointment and hopes to have his new man in place before Saturday’s trip to Derby County.
If it is to be Hartley, it would be a huge blow for Dundee as the Dark Blues are unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership on 10 points, and have back-to-back city derbies ahead of them.
Out of work former Crystal Palace and Stoke City boss Tony Pulis remains second favourite for the job at 4/1, with the likes of Neil Lennon, Glenn Hoddle and MK Dons boss Karl Robinson all among the candidates.
Hartley previously led Alloa Athletic to consecutive promotions after moving into management following an impressive playing career.
He represented his country 25 times and played for Hearts, Celtic, St Johnstone and Raith Rovers among others.
He hasn’t even been Dundee manager for a year yet. Hartley took over from John Brown on February 5.
