Gavin Rae admitted he had mixed emotions over the friendly pitch invasion by ecstatic Dundee fans at the end of their game against Alloa on Saturday.
Their joy was understandable as they celebrated not just their own side winning but the fact that the Dark Blues had edged closer to Championship title glory thanks to Hamilton’s defeat at Dumbarton.
However, Rae has cautioned that Dundee still have it all to do in next week’s final game of the season against the Sons at what is sure to be a packed Dens Park.
When it was put to the veteran midfielder that the fans were celebrating at the end as if they had won something but that was not the case, he said: “Without a doubt. I am not really sure how I felt about that.”
“I would rather if anything was going to happen, then it would be next week when something was defined.
“But we really appreciated their support at Alloa. They turned out in big numbers and I am glad we could get a win for them but nothing is done yet.”
Rae was then asked if the celebration on the pitch was partly caused by relief after last Saturday’s defeat at Morton seemed to end the chances of automatic promotion.
He said: “Possibly. After last week they may have been thinking that’s it, so it might have been a bit of relief that we managed to get the win and be back up there.”
