Craig Beattie is the latest member of Dundee’s Championship-winning squad to be released.
The former Scotland international joined the Dark Blues in September and made 19 appearances, scoring five goals. The last of them was a crucial strike in the 3-0 win at Alloa on the second last day of the season.
Beattie joins Gavin Rae, Christian Nade, Leighton McIntosh and John Gibson in moving on from Dundee.
Meanwhile, Matt Lockwood has emerged as a surprise contender for the Morton manager’s job.
The Dundee defender has thrown his hat into the ring to replace Kenny Shiels at Cappielow.
The 37-year-old said: “I have really enjoyed my time at Dundee but I would welcome the opportunity to get into management.
“I would like to show Morton what I could do.”
Lockwood is a Uefa A and B licence holder and has coached at the Dark Blues since joining them after a 15-year career in England.
The full-back has been given a glowing reference from the colourful figure of Ian Holloway, who said: “Matt’s application, desire, motivation and strength compare with all of the great professionals I have known in my career.
