Former Dundee striker Colin Nish believes Dens boss Paul Hartley has signed a player with huge potential in Paul McGinn.
Nish played with the 23-year-old last season in the Championship at Dumbarton and witnessed first hand just how good the full-back can be.
And the big front man insists that McGinn, who signed a two-year deal with the Dark Blues on Friday, will take the step up to the Premiership in his stride.
Nish said: “Dundee have got themselves a really good player. Paul is a modern-day full-back who gets up and down the park and delivers a good ball into the box.
“He’s still young but has huge potential. I can’t speak highly enough of him as a player and a person. Now he’s got the chance to go and play at a higher level and he won’t disappoint.”
Nish added: “I’m not surprised he’s got himself a move to the Premiership.
“It was only a matter of time before he made the move up considering the way he played for us last season, and at Dens Park on the final day of the campaign he was a stand-out.
“There is obviously a step up between the Championship and the top flight but it’s nothing Paul can’t handle. I’d put my money on him becoming a very important player for his new club.
“He’ll relish the challenge on moving up and, knowing the kind of lad he is, it will bring out the best in him so the Dundee fans will take to him.”
McGinn’s two brothers are also footballers with Stephen playing at Sheffield United and John at St Mirren.
And Nish believes Paul can also prove himself at a high level.
He added: “Paul is a really down-to-earth lad. He’s from a real footballing family as his brothers both play. He should settle right away into his new surroundings.
“We wish him all the best and hope he shows what a good player he is throughout the course of the season.”
