Scotland boss Gordon Strachan will announce his squad for the forthcoming European qualifiers against Georgia and Germany at noon today and Dundee’s Kane Hemmings admits he will be surprised if team-mate Scott Bain is not named in it.
The Dark Blues keeper has picked up where he left off last season, with assured performances and some stunning saves.
He was helpless to prevent Adam Rooney netting the two goals that defeated Dundee at Pittodrie on Saturday but once again he produced another stunning stop to prevent what looked a certain Graeme Shinnie goal.
Hemmings is aware that Strachan has three quality keepers at his disposal already in David Marshall, Craig Gordon and Allan McGregor but he still believes Bain is worthy of winning what would be his second Scotland call-up.
The striker said: “I would be very surprised if he wasn’t in the squad.
“I know Scotland have some top-class goalies but some of the saves Bainy has pulled off in recent weeks would justify his inclusion.
“He is right up there.
“I think Bainy’s save against Dundee United and even last week against St Johnstone are some of the best I have seen in games.
“Ask any player, all you need is a chance to go and prove yourself and Bainy has gone in a similar direction to me.
“He was at Aberdeen but they let him go. Then you go part-time, prove yourself and then you get a chance to go back full-time.
“He had a stab at it again and now he is getting Scotland call-ups and is arguably one of the best goalies in the SPL at the moment.
“I think he deserves great credit for the way he has bounced back.”
