The midfielder has been with the Dens Park club for three years and was part of the side which won the SPFL Championship title last season.
McBride’s release ahead of the end of the season will give him a head-start in his efforts to get fixed up with a new club.
After helping the Dark Blues to promotion as a first team regular, chances have been few and far between this season, with McBride making just seven appearances.
A Dundee statement said: “We would like to thank Kevin for his efforts during his time at Dens and wish him all the best for the future.”
McBride is one of several out-of-contract squad members whose future will be decided by manager Paul Hartley over the next couple of weeks.
