Dundee assistant boss Ray Farningham insists the club’s players and coaching staff are still feeling the hurt following Saturday’s defeat at Dens against Raith Rovers that saw the Dark Blues crash out of the William Hill Scottish Cup.
A calamitous early own-goal after a mix-up between Gary Irvine and his keeper Kyle Letheren was the difference between the sides, with Rovers going through to the fifth round.
The Kirkcaldy side were in the hat for yesterday afternoon’s draw with former Scotland international Kenny Miller doing the honours to hand them a tie against Hibs at Easter Road.
Farningham, who was on media duty yesterday because boss John Brown was in Broxburn watching the club’s reserves losing 2-1 against Livingston, said that the Scottish Cup disappointment must be quickly forgotten and the focus switch fully onto success in the league.
He said: “We are all still bitterly disappointed with the result and performance. It was just so unexpected, especially after a great win the previous week through in Hamilton.
“Obviously, the goal we conceded was a bad one, but we still had plenty of time left to rectify it. We feel we have let the fans down.
“We had said to the players beforehand just how good it would be to be able to sit and watch the draw knowing we were in the hat for the last 16, but it wasn’t to be.
“We certainly cannot afford to feel sorry for ourselves, though, and we will train hard this week for our next game at Morton.
“The league and winning promotion has always been our chief priority this season, and we will be able to focus all our attention on doing just that.”
