Paul Hartley has been warned to expect no favours when he returns to Alloa for the first time since being appointed manager of Dundee.
Wasps goalkeeper Scott Bain was Hartley’s first signing as Alloa boss where he led the club to back-to-back promotions.
While the 22-year-old admits he will always be indebted to Hartley, Bain has told him he will do everything to wreck his Championship title bid.
Dundee’s shock defeat against Morton at the weekend saw them drop into second place, a point behind Hamilton Accies with just two games to go.
Now Hartley has to make sure there are no more slip-ups, starting with Saturday’s clash against Alloa at Recreation Park.
Hartley rates Bain as the most talented young keeper in Scottish football but will be hoping his warm words of praise won’t come back to haunt him.
Alloa ace Bain a youngster at Aberdeen when Hartley was the Dons captain said: “I am not sure Paul will want to play us in a match where Dundee are looking to stay in the title race.
“He knows it will be a difficult game for them.
“There is no doubt I owe Paul a lot. I was his his first signing at Alloa and he put a lot of trust and faith in me, making me first choice goalkeeper at the club at the age of 20.
“He has helped my development in the game greatly. He did a great job when he was manager of Alloa and I’m sure all the fans appreciate what he achieved.
“But come Saturday we have a job to do. If we win, that’s Alloa secure in the league so all the boys will be up for it as they have been all season.
“It’s going to be a tough game for Dundee and I’m pretty sure they won’t be looking forward to it.
“I will probably speak to Paul before the game on Saturday, say hello and that. He is doing a good job at Dundee although he will not have been happy with their defeat at the weekend.
“Dundee are the only top three team we have not beaten this season and we feel hard done by. I think we are due them one.”
