Dundee’s Greg Stewart reveals war of words helped seal victory over Ross County

Greg Stewart has revealed that there was an argument between the Dundee players during the interval of Saturday’s game with Ross County despite the fact they were leading 3-2 at the time.

Words were exchanged because the Dark Blues had seemed certain to go in at the break two goals in front.

Instead, Staggies Alex Schalk scored in the 45th minute to pull one back for the Highland side.

However, the clear-the-air chat had the desired effect with Dundee scoring a further two goals in the second-half to win 5-2, with the victory taking Paul Hartley’s side back into the top six.

Stewart said: “We are delighted. We knew what we had to do before the game and we beat them to go ahead of them.

“We are delighted but we made it hard for ourselves.

“We should have been comfy but we gave away one before half-time.

“We had a bit of an argument at half-time about making it hard for ourselves.

“We were disappointed with the last goal. It happens in football. It is one of those things but it got sorted and that is it finished with.

“It shows the great spirit we have and we can take that into Tuesday (against Celtic).”

Meanwhile, St Mirren manager Alex Rae has revealed that the Paisley club has rejected a “derogatory” bid from Dundee for midfielder Stevie Mallan.

Speaking to the BBC, the Buddies boss said: “As far as I’m led to believe, it has been knocked back.

“We felt it was a bit derogatory from Dundee and it would take a lot more money than that.

“I’m led to believe it is done and dusted as far as we are concerned.”
