Former Dundee favourite Nacho Novo hopes the Dark Blues can cement their place at the top of the Championship table and go on and win promotion this season.
The 34-year-old Spaniard gave a trademark whole-hearted performance for current side Morton against Dundee on Saturday but he could not prevent John Brown’s men leaving Cappielow with all three points.
Dundee went 2-0 ahead with first-half goals by Craig Beattie and Declan Gallagher. Although Dougie Imrie pulled one back for the hosts, they remain in a precarious position, propping up the table having sacked manager Allan Moore last month.
Novo is hoping they can now build on what was a decent second-half performance next week against Alloa.
But, with Morton definitely well out of the title race, he would like nothing better than for Dundee to win the league and return to the top tier of Scottish football.
He said: “I thought we played quite well and created a few chances. We were a lot better in the second half but that’s football, sometimes it is really hard.
“We need to keep working the way we did and hopefully we will start getting results. We just have to take the positives from this game into the next match.
“Dundee are a good side. Obviously for me if there is to be a team at the top of the league and going for promotion to the Premiership, I would like Dundee to do it.
“They are my old club and I had a fantastic two years there so I would love them to go up.”
Dundee boss John Brown is hoping an injury sustained by Ryan Conroy in the second half of the Morton game will turn out to not be as serious as first feared.
The wide midfielder tumbled to the turf in the 77th minute clutching the back of his leg and hobbled off looking to be in some pain.
However, Brown said: “Ryan looks like he has suffered a strain to his calf/achilles area but the early signs are that he will be OK for next week’s game against Cowdenbeath.”
