Dundee completely dominated against Dumbarton in this Scottish Cup tie but ultimately had to settle for a draw and they now face a replay against the Championship part-timers.
The Dark Blues looked like they would blow the Sons away with an opening blitz and hit the post in just the fifth minute when Nick Ross cracked a crisp shot from the edge of the Dumbarton box.
Skipper Gary Harkins then went close with a long-range effort but after that, the Dark Blues struggled to fashion clear-cut chances on the heavy home pitch.
Dundee did come agonisingly close to opening the scoring in the 37th minute when Rory Loy played in Kane Hemmings in the Sons penalty area but the striker’s shot was cleared off the line by home defender Mark Docherty.
Hemmings did have the ball in the back of the net in the 50th minute but his “goal” was chalked off for offside.
There was a further chance for Paul McGowan but his shot was saved by Jamie Ewings.
Harkins then headed just over in the 67th minute from a Greg Stewart corner.
However, the Dark Blues found it increasingly tough to break down the stubborn home defence in atrocious conditions and the game ended goal-less
