Former Dundee owner Peter Marr has poured cold water on suggestions that the Dark Blues were just days away from merging with neighbours Dundee United in 1999.
The claims emerged over the weekend when ex-SPL chief Roger Mitchell in a Twitter conversation insisted a deal had been done between the two city rivals before the plug was pulled 72 hours later.
Mitchell also said a badge and kit for the new, amalgamated side had even been submitted to the SPL for approval.
He tweeted on Saturday: “It wasn’t just mooted, it was done and dusted on the Friday then off on the Monday.
@JimSpenceSport @manson_robert @Jonnyrmcfarlane @SimonPia1 mooted? It was done and dusted on Friday. Off, on Monday.

@JimSpenceSport @manson_robert @Jonnyrmcfarlane @SimonPia1 Jim. He had registered the name, the strips with us. As he had to. It was DONE.

“He had registered the name and the strips with us, as he had to. It was done.”
However, when contacted by Courier Sport yesterday, Marr said: “It’s total nonsense.
The former Dens supremo also brushed off suggestions about a new badge and kit saying: “If there was, I never saw it.”
