John Brown hints at more business during transfer window

John Brown is chasing further new signings.

Dundee boss John Brown maintains the Dark Blues will do more business in this month’s transfer window after the acquisition of Stephen Hughes.

More new faces have been promised between now and when the window shuts at the end of the month and Bomber is expected to run the rule over a few trialists this week as he seeks to strengthen his squad for their promotion push.

Brown reckons the addition of experienced players like Hughes can only bolster Dundee’s Championship credentials.

Bomber said: “We’re delighted to get Stephen. He’s got great experience and he’s a good footballer who likes to get on the ball.

“He likes to get forward and that is maybe something we need to add from middle to front. We need to improve on that aspect after Saturday’s defeat by Livingston.

“I know him well because I had Stephen as a kid at Rangers. One thing about him is that he always gives 100% in every session.

“So if he can come here and bring the quality I know he’s got, and his fitness levels are looking good, he’ll be a big player for us.

“Stephen is desperate to get back full-time after a spell with East Fife. He has this opportunity now that if he does well and helps Dundee go up, then there could be a further contract there.”

The Dundee boss has organised a bounce game to have a look at some more trialists and Hughes could well play some part.

He will also use the match to assess the fitness of former Hearts and Sheffield United striker Christian Nade, who is still training with the Dark Blues, while he is keen to perhaps add a wide player to his squad, with Nicky Riley still sidelined through injury.

Meanwhile, chief executive Scot Gardiner was delighted to see Dundee complete their second signing of the January window, following their loan move for Motherwell defender Adam Cummins at the end of last week.

He concluded: “Stephen’s desire to join Dundee and his experience and creativity will be invaluable in the second half of the season and we are looking to add more quality players like Stephen and Adam to the squad, hopefully before the weekend.”
