Dundee’s top-of-the-table clash with Hamilton called off
ByNeil Robertson
The thousands of Dundee fans heading to Dens Park today were left bitterly disappointed after the game against Hamilton was called off by referee Craig Thomson just after 1.30pm.
The eagerly-awaited Championship top-of-the-table clash fell victim to the weather with the City of Discovery hit by torrential rain that had poured down throughout the morning and continued into the afternoon.
The normally excellent surface at the stadium just could not cope with the deluge and the referee was left with little option but to decide that the game could not go ahead.
The Hamilton team bus had just arrived shortly before the match was postponed and they performed a quick U-turn and headed straight back west.
Both sides will now try to work out a rearranged date with February 8 already looking like the preferred option as the teams have a free weekend because they are not involved in the Scottish Cup.
Read Monday’s Courier Sport for full reaction from referee Thomson, Dundee boss John Brown as well as Dark Blues midfielder Jim McAlister.
