Dundee’s Alex Harris insists best is yet to come from him

Alex Harris has assured Dundee fans that they have yet to see the best from him in a dark blue jersey.

The 20-year-old arrived at Dens at the start of this year on loan from Hibs with the aim of securing regular football after a stop-start few months with the Edinburgh side.

He has achieved that goal and now he is demanding even more from himself to help Paul Hartley’s side in their push for a top six finish, starting this afternoon in Inverness.

Harris, who is a product of the Hibs youth system, said: “I’m loving every minute of it here.

“Since I’ve come in, the results for us have been really good.

“So it’s been really simple for me to come in and enjoy myself.

“The atmosphere has been brilliant within the dressing-room and all the lads have made me feel very welcome.

“So it’s been really easy for me to fit in. I still think there’s a lot to come yet though.

“I’ve played a lot since I came here to Dundee and I’m enjoying it but I still feel there’s a bit to go yet.

“That’s the main reason I came here (regular football).

“It was the reason I wanted to go out on loan from Hibs because I wasn’t playing there.

“When I came in here, the first thing the manager said was that I would get game time. He’s been true to his word.

“I’m just enjoying playing football again and that’s what I’m best at.”

Harris admitted he is unsure what the future holds next season.

He is contracted to Hibs but is determined to concentrate on the here and now and not what may or may not develop.

Harris said: “I don’t know what will happen, to be honest. There’s still a lot of football to be played.

“The focus for me right now is trying to get into the top-six.

“I will play my football and let the rest of it take care of itself when the season is over.

“I’ve haven’t really spoken to the Hibs manager Alan Stubbs.

“He’ll be focusing on Hibs just now and I’m playing for Dundee.

“That’s as far as it is just now. It’s not up to me whether I stay here if I had the chance. It’s up to Hibs.”

Dundee will go from famine to feast in terms of the amount of games they have coming up. They only had one match in March and now they face three in the space of a week.

However, Harris insists the busy schedule is one the players are all looking forward to.

He said: “We only had one game in March but this promises to be a busy couple of weeks.

“We had a few days off last week to get rested up and it gave us a chance to get some of the boys back from injury.

“We had a lot of injuries before the break so maybe for those who were playing every week it was a nice break.

“Only playing once in about three of four weeks was obviously frustrating because you train every day with a view to playing on a Saturday.

“But the games are coming thick and fast now and we’re looking forward to them.”

The game at Inverness is followed by Wednesday night’s derby with United then a trip to Perth to play Tayside rivals St Johnstone.

Harris is hoping that if Dundee can secure the right result in Inverness, it will prove to be the launching pad into the top six.

He said: “If you’re winning, you get momentum in such a busy spell.

“It gets the confidence up too so it helps that way.

“We’ve got three games in a week and it’s crucial we get off to a good start.

“Inverness have been doing well this season.

“I haven’t played against them so it will be a new experience for me up in Inverness.

“Especially with the derby to look forward to on Wednesday as well, we really do need to show what we’re capable of.

“We need to put ourselves out there and make sure we’re ready to go come Saturday.”

Dundee will be without the injured Gary Irvine, Gary Harkins and Luka Tankulic.
