There is a “slim” chance that Dundee could make a shock move for veteran goalie Jon Connolly.
The former Motherwell, Albion Rovers and East Stirling keeper now plies his trade with the junior side Thorniewood United, from Viewpark in Lanarkshire.
Recently, he helped the Dark Blues when they were training at East Kilbride and he so impressed interim Dundee boss John Brown that he was promised the chance of a deal at Dens provided he can shift some pounds over the summer.
The 33-year-old keeper said: “John brought some of his players down to East Kilbride because of the weather recently.
“As luck would have it, they needed an extra goalkeeper for their training. Alan Wardlaw, of Cambuslang Rangers, is friendly with Bomber and he got in touch asking if I could go.
“I felt the training would be beneficial so I went along on Wednesday and Thursday.
“I knew deep down and from talking with the Dundee players that I’d acquitted myself well but you could have knocked me down with a feather when John took me aside to discuss future plans.
“He’s a straight-talking guy and laid it on the line that he was impressed by me but he now wants me to lose weight and get in shape before Dundee’s pre-season rather than use pre-season to do it.
“If I keep my end of the bargain and John is still in charge, then he’s promised a one-year contract will be on the table.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to play again at the very highest level, but first thing is to get myself in the best possible shape so the diet and hard work starts here.
“I’ve enjoyed playing at Thorniewood where football matters have fitted well with my work and family commitments but I have to give a lot of serious consideration as to what might happen if this Dundee offer comes to fruition.”
