Jim McAlister has given Dundee a big boost after signing a new two-year deal with the Dark Blues.
The 27-year-old midfielder was one of the club’s star men last season during their ill-fated SPL campaign.
Those performances put him on the radar of several other clubs, most notably St Mirren, who have already captured his former team-mate Gary Harkins.
However, Dundee boss John Brown has now persuaded McAlister to extend his stay at the club as Dundee look to bounce back into the top tier at the first attempt.
The player, who has only just returned from his honeymoon, said: “It’s going to be a big season. Our aim is to go straight back up so we know what’s at stake.
“We all realise what’s on offer and I’m sure we can cope with the expectation of trying to win promotion. It will be as much about that as anything else and I’m sure we’ll be mentally strong enough to stand up to it.
“We’ll all be buzzing by the time pre-season training starts again and we’ll want to hit the ground running.”
Dundee have also announced that veteran defender Matt Lockwood and John Gibson have signed new deals for next season.
