Forfar boss Dick Campbell hit out at referee Barry Cook after his team lost a last-gasp extra-time goal to Dundee in the Scottish Communities League Cup.
Campbell labelled as “embarrassing” the decision to award the Dark Blues a free-kick in front of the Loons’ box in the final minute of extra time at Dens.
Gary Fusco was ruled to have fouled Martin Boyle by ref Cook and up stepped Dundee striker Peter MacDonald to fire home and make it 2-1 after it had finished one apiece after 90 minutes.
“I have been in this game a long time and if that’s a free-kick then I’m a donkey and I’m not a donkey,” said Campbell.
“The linesman didn’t give it and none of the (Dundee) players contested for it.
“He looked away then changed his mind and gave a free-kick at the edge of the box. It was a totally stupid thing to do.
“I was looking to speak to the fourth official but they are all shaking their heads because they are not wanting to talk to me.
“They know it’s an embarrassing decision.
“It was a great finish from MacDonald but you have to say to yourself…
“How the referee can give a foul is beyond me.”
Dundee assistant boss Ray Farningham claimed he didn’t see the incident in question and was just glad the Dark Blues made it through to the third round.
“We are relieved but I think the boys put in a right good shift tonight, especially after going down to 10 men,” he said.
“We kept on going in extra-time and the spirit and fitness were good. It was a great free-kick from Peaso.”
