Dundee goalkeeper Rab Douglas has admitted he was badly in need of the five-star performance he produced against St Mirren in midweek.
The Dens Park No 1 was outstanding as he kept the Buddies at bay and he will be tested once again when free-scoring Inverness Caley Thistle visit.
Douglas conceded that he fell below his own standards prior to that 2-1 victory over the Paisley men so was pleased to get a chance to make amends.
“I needed a game like the St Mirren one,” said Douglas. I had been disappointed with myself in the last four or five matches leading up to that. I set myself reasonable standards and I don’t think I’d been at it.
“I don’t know how much stick I’ve been taking because I’ve not been reading the papers. But if I have all I can say is that I’ve been disappointed in myself.
“It’s a team game but you hold your hands up and I think I justified myself against St Mirren. It was good to make a few saves and help the boys stay in the game.
“We got a good result and just want to keep it going now.”
Douglas added: “Inverness will be a hard one but they will come here knowing they will be in for a game.
“We played a tough derby against United on Sunday, gave them a right game then went out and won on Wednesday.”
One negative on an otherwise great night for the Dark Blues was the size of the attendance, which came in at only 3,674. Douglas is obviously hoping for more to make it to Dens.
“The crowd was well down for the St Mirren game but hopefully the fans can come out and back us again this weekend,” he said.
“In the first half we were honking and it was like we hadn’t met each other before. We deserved the stick we got from the fans but we bounced back from it.
“We put a great effort in and got our rewards. We are not giving up but we have to get results we know that. There is not much room for error so we have to go for it.
“But Wednesday was a massive win, a real confidence boost for the boys. And if we can get another couple on the board you never know.
“Something could happen with other teams, whether it’s finances or someone simply goes on a run of losing games, so we’ll keep fighting away.
“The whole place has had a lift.”
Douglas passed the goalkicking duties to defender Davide Grassi after he picked up a leg injury during the St Mirren game.
However, he hopes he will be fine to face the Highlanders.
“I kicked the ball out of my hand and I felt my muscle a bit tight,” he said.
“I had to get the lads to do the kicking for me but it’s OK.”
Inverness manager Terry Butcher has no fresh injury problems ahead of the match.
Left-back Graeme Shinnie picked up his sixth booking in the draw with Ross County last weekend but his suspension has not become active yet.
