Dundee interim boss John Brown says he is determined to put his own future to one side for the time being and focus on football in the run-in.
The 51-year-old has made no secret of the fact he would love to be given the manager’s job on a permanent basis in the summer and has staked a real claim by doing relatively well since taking over in February.
As far as Brown is concerned, however, all he is concentrating on is the Dark Blues’ final five league fixtures and boosting the club’s chances of avoiding the drop.
He said: “The club have given me the job until the end of the season and then at the end of the season the club can talk about it.
“As far as I’m concerned, there’s so many other situations that could arise league reconstruction is a bit of a shambles with the SPL and what’s happening there, whether you survive or whether you go down.
“There’s a lot of ifs and buts just now and then you are down to budgets and what you’ve got to play with.
“For me, I’m just concentrating on a game at a time and waiting until the end of the season.
“It allows the directors to have a bit of breathing space that they can concentrate on where the club is going to be when everything is decided.”
A whole host of players at Dens Park are out-of-contact in the summer but Brown hopes his squad can also put that uncertainty behind them heading into next week’s post-split opener away to St Mirren.
On that front, Brown stressed: “I’ve just told all the players: ‘Let’s concentrate on the five games’.
“A lot of their agents are phoning me and I’ve just said to the players: ‘Let me know if there’s any interest in you so that I can speak to the board with a view to whether we want to try and get you signed up.’
“That’s a board decision until they decide who is going to be the permanent manager.”
