Brian Easton is set to ratchet up the pressure on a former team-mate this week as Dundee look to continue to defy the odds in their SPL survival fight.
The Dark Blues’ stubborn resistance against relegation continued on Saturday as they registered their third win in a row by beating Hearts while their rivals for the drop, St Mirren, could only draw against Hibs.
The points gap between the two sides has been cut to eight with just three games remaining and Easton believes Danny Lennon’s men will really be feeling the heat now.
The big full-back said: “I know that if I was in the St Mirren team now, I would be starting to get a bit nervous.
“I have played with a few of their lads like Steven Thompson when we were at Burnley together and others for Scotland Under-21s. I will maybe send Thommo a wee text or two this week, trying to wind him up a bit.
“St Mirren would probably have liked to have put it to bed a week or two ago.”
Easton added: “They also know we are the form team fighting for our lives and willing to put everything on the line as we showed today. I wouldn’t blame them for being worried.
“Hopefully other teams can do us a favour but we just have to win our next three games which is going to be hard to do. But we are confident we can have a real go at it.
“A lot of people had already written us off but even if St Mirren do win one of their last games to relegate us, we want to go down fighting and with our heads held high.”
