DUNDEE BOSS Barry Smith continues to face an anxious wait to learn his fate after it emerged directors are still trying to firm up a date for the meeting which will decide his future.
With no game now until January 19, it is understood the board are reluctant to rush into a decision on whether to sack or back the beleaguered Dark Blues boss with directors set to convene at some point in the next few days to discuss the issue.
When that meeting will take place was still up in the air last night, but Courier Sport understands the board will also face a split when it comes to the prospect of swinging the axe.
At least two directors are said to be in favour of replacing Smith as manager after Dundee’s poor start to the SPL, while others remain convinced he is still the man to steer them to safety in the second half of the campaign.
While chief executive Scot Gardiner was unavailable for comment, director Maurice Kidd revealed that at least one board member was abroad meaning there was no date as yet for the all-important meeting.
The make-or-break talks are unlikely to take place before tonight at the very earliest, but, like his fellow directors, Kidd refused to divulge which way he would be voting when they do gather to gauge opinion on Smith’s tenure as boss.
“There will be a board meeting to discuss the issue but I can’t say when that will be because of availability,” he confirmed to The Courier.
“We haven’t had the discussion yet so it would be unfair of me to comment (on which way he would vote).”
