Barry Smith says Dark Blues raring to go after break
ByNeil Robertson
THE DUNDEE players have shown boss Barry Smith they are itching to return to action following the SPL winter break.
That is the manager’s assessment, after he oversaw a behind-closed-doors game between his squad when they displayed the sort of desire and commitment the Dark Blues will need in the remainder of the season, as they look to escape the drop.
He said: “We played a bounce game among ourselves on Friday and I could see they were all desperate to get back playing.
“There was a good tempo, which was impressive. Sometimes it is hard to get motivated for those type of games but there was definitely a determination and hunger there. So the lads are just raring to go again.”
Meanwhile, there was still no confirmation yesterday on the potential move involving the return of former fans’ favourite Gary Harkins to Dens.
A deal has been agreed with the midfielder’s present club Kilmarnock but, as yet, the player has not signed.
Smith is prepared to be patient and he confirmed that there may be other newcomers in the squad for this weekend’s game at Hibs.
He said: “We are actively trying to bring new players in for Saturday.”
