‘Not for sale’ Dundee United chief knocked back English interest in club takeover

Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has revealed he was approached earlier this year regarding a possible takeover of the Tannadice club.
That was as far as the chat went, however, with Thompson immediately making it clear he wasn’t interested.
Thompson, who earlier this week confirmed that United owe nothing to their bankers, said: “I’m not interested in selling.
“I was approached by a third party on behalf of a potential investor in England, who wanted to know whether I was interested in selling the club.
“I told them that the club was not for sale. We have worked too hard to get us to where we are to sell up now.”
It is coming up for the 12th anniversary of the start of the Thompson family’s reign at Tannadice, with Stephen’s father Eddie taking control on September 25, 2002.
