Dundee United’s Sean Dillon insists he will not be using what happened on May 17, last year as motivation for this Saturday’s League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.
The Tangerines skipper experienced Scottish Cup Final heartache at Celtic Park against St Johnstone at the end of last season.
It is a defeat that still hurts everyone connected with United however Dillon is adamant that past failures should not act as a spur for this Saturdays’ semi-final.
Instead, he is simply determined to look forward to securing another place in the final of a cup competition for the second season running, especially as he is fully aware that players just never know when the glory days will end.
The popular Irishman said: “You shouldn’t need any motivation.
“It is a semi-final and the chance to get to a final. There are only two a season and it is not like you are going to get them all the time.
“So you shouldn’t need motivation or to look back to past games or failures.
“It is a huge game and an opportunity to go on and play in another cup final.
“Some of the lads who were involved in May might use that as motivation but for me it is just another semi-final and a massive opportunity to get to a final.
“You just never know when your last one will be no matter what age you are so it’s a big game.”
