Celtic and Burnley have both had bids for midfielder Stuart Armstrong rejected by Dundee United.
The Tangerines have told the Scottish champions and the English Premier League side that their offers fall way short of United’s valuation of the player.
The Hoops are understood to have put approximately £1.5 million on the table, while the Clarets have come in under that.
It would take a much bigger bid to make the Tannadice board even consider letting the former Scotland under-21 captain go when he still has a year and a half of his contract to run.
The Parkhead men have been long-time admirers of the player and have already dipped into the Tannadice squad to sign Gary Mackay-Steven on a pre-contract.
The interest in Armstrong from England extends beyond Turf Moor, with West Bromwich Albion also keen on him.
Having two teams make contact to try to prise away a prize asset like Armstrong is the last thing the Tangerines need as they prepare for Saturday’s Scottish League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen at Hampden.
However, with both Celtic and Burnley having been sent home to think again, the focus of Armstrong and his teammates should still be fully on the clash with the Dons.
