Dundee United say they have received no contact from Blackburn Rovers regarding winger Gary Mackay-Steven.
It had been reported that Rovers were considering making a £500,000 offer for the Scotland squad man their thinking being that would be a fair price for a player whose deal, it was claimed, runs out next summer.
However, as the club pointed out, Mackay-Steven’s current contract does not expire until the summer of 2015.
Therefore, it will take a figure far in excess of the half-million pounds to make the Tangerines even think about selling their prize asset.
A Tannadice source said: “We would like to point out that Gary is under contract with us until 2015.
“Therefore, if a bid of £500,000 is considered fair because, as was wrongly suggested, he is out of contract next summer then obviously he would be worth far more than that.
“In saying that, I wish to make it clear that we have heard absolutely nothing from Blackburn Rovers in relation to the player.”
Meanwhile, United chairman Stephen Thompson and lawyer Rod McKenzie are in Lausanne, Switzerland, today to make United’s case regarding former player Damian Casalinouvuo.
The Court of Arbiration of Sport will sit to decide whether or not the Tangerines need to pay Velez Sarsfield compensation for the Argentinian.
