Dundee United have dropped their interest in Celtic striker Denny Johnstone due to the uncertain outcome of any transfer tribunal, it is understood.
The Tannadice side snapped up 18-year-old Rangers midfielder Charlie Telfer on a three-year deal earlier this month. However, a training ground compensation fee is still to be agreed between the clubs.
United were also keen to give 19-year-old Johnstone, who has been capped at under-16, 17 and 19 age levels for Scotland, a chance in their first team squad.
However, they have opted to end their interest due to the likelihood of a second tribunal being required to settle a transfer fee.
