Dundee United’s New Year derby with Dundee heading for a sell-out
ByCraig Smith
Dundee United have confirmed that home tickets for the forthcoming New Year’s Day derby with city rivals Dundee have now sold out.
Both sets of supporters no doubt pinpointed the festive fixture at Tannadice as one not to miss at the start of the season, and so it has proved as Tangerines fans have been quick to snap up their entire allocation.
United have had the better of the first two Tayside tussles so far this season, running out comfortable 4-1 winners when the teams met along the road at Dens Park in the league on September 21.
That was followed three days later by a much closer encounter in the League Cup, when Jaroslaw Fojut’s late, late header was just enough to beat the 10 men of Dundee on the night.
United fans will therefore be confident of a third victory over their local rivals this term, although Dundee – out for a measure of revenge – fully expect their faithful to fill their allocation before January 1’s match.
