Dundee United’s Rado Cierzniak admits that if he is going to return to his Polish homeland at the end of this season, he is determined to do so with a League Cup winner’s medal tucked away in his luggage.
The big keeper is out of contract this summer and he revealed that he is still weighing up his future options.
However, he insists he will try to retain his focus on helping United be as successful as possible this season.
Cierzniak said: “This might be a chance to go back to Poland with a winner’s medal. At the moment, I don’t know what’s going to happen.
“I have a few offers but it’s just talk. Nothing has happened.
“At the moment I’m trying not to think about this but it’s not easy.
“Now we have to get back in training and fight for a good place in the league.”
Cierzniak did not cover himself in glory when Aberdeen opened the scoring on Saturday but he insists that mistakes are just part and parcel of being a goalkeeper.
He said: “I always speak to the gaffer about this. I’m very brave I always try and help my team by coming for crosses. It’s easier for the defender when I go out but I will make mistakes as well.
“Last season, in the final, I made a mistake. That was a similar situation to today when the guy held my hand.
“This is football and I have to keep my head up and still help my team. I can make mistakes but how many crosses did I catch today? How many times did I help my team? The most important thing is the gaffer sees this. He knows.”
Cierzniak certainly redeemed himself when he made a spectacular save from a Ryan Jack shot that would have given the Dons the lead for the second time in the game.
He added: “This is why sometimes a keeper can change the whole picture. I know this. But I think the whole team played very well.
“We stuck together and all worked for the team.”
