Dundee United defender Fojut out of Kilmarnock match

Dundee United will be without defensive rock Jaroslaw Fojut for their weekend trip to Kilmarnock.

The influential Polish centre-back has been a virtual ever-present for Jackie McNamara in his debut season with the Tangerines.

But he crossed the six bookings threshold with his yellow card against St Mirren last month and will have to sit out the Rugby Park clash, the SFA’s disciplinary department has confirmed.

Meanwhile, new signing Robbie Muirhead could be set for a debut against his old club, after impressing McNamara in training.

The forward was a deadline day £150,000 capture from Killie, and the United boss has already seen enough to know he’s done an excellent piece of business.

McNamara said: “I think Robbie brings a lot of things. Despite still being young, he’s played a good bit of football.

“I think he’s a fantastic talent. You just need to see his finishing in training and his movement to see what he was to offer.

“He’s a big lad and has a lot of good attributes. At his age, he’s only going to get better as well.

“Robbie will be in the squad for the Kilmarnock game and I believe he’s a real find for us.”

McNamara also had praise for midfielder Chris Erskine who was on target in last weekend’s Scottish Cup win away to Stranraer.

He said: “Chris has shown what I know he can do. He done it for us at Partick Thistle to.

“I think there were a number of factors last year, such as the form of the young Ryan Gauld and other ones in that position.

“So it was difficult to find him a place.

“He was coming in and out and not getting a proper opportunity at that time because of the form of the other ones.

“He then went back to Partick for six months and he came back in the summer ready to push for a start which he’s done.”

John Souttar and Mario Bilate are both stepping up their comeback from injury as United continue to fight on three fronts.

Defender Souttar has been blighted with an ankle injury this season and forward Bilate has suffered with a hamstring problem. But both are nearing full fitness.

McNamara reported: “Bilate and Souttar obviously aren’t match fit at the moment.

“But they’re coming back in and have started training again with the boys for the first time this week.

“We will look to give them a bit of game-time next week in the under-20’s.

“It will be a couple of weeks anyway but the two of them looked good in training on Monday.

“It was nice to see from that point of view.”
