Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara is relaxed about facing last season’s top three when the new campaign kicks off
The Tangerines head up to Pittodrie for the curtain-raiser against Aberdeen on Sunday.
They then have their first home match of the season next Wednesday when Motherwell, who pipped the Dons to the runners-up spot, visit Tannadice.
United will then travel to Glasgow to take on champions Celtic the following Saturday lunchtime, with the Hoops unfurling the flag that day.
Let’s just say it could have been an easier start for McNamara’s men but the manager is determined to meet the challenge.
“We need to play everybody at some point so whether we got the top three from last season or the lowest finishers it doesn’t really matter,” he said.
“They are all hard games and every club wants to start well and kick off with a win. There is no difference that way.
“What is important is that we try to get a victory to begin the season with and I think there will be a great crowd at Pittodrie on Sunday.
“It has turned around up there and Derek McInnes has had a great first season there, winning the League Cup.
“They will be looking to add to that. They will be confident going into this league season but for us it is important that we build on last year and progress ourselves.”
