They started the week on a low, but Dundee United could be back on top by the end of it.
A League Cup semi-final place is at stake against Hibs tonight, and then Premiership strugglers St Mirren come to Tannadice in the league on Saturday.
Get two wins and the mood at Tannadice will be dramatically different to the downbeat one in Inverness last weekend, first team coach Simon Donnelly admitted.
He pointed out: “We had a disappointing result and performance in Inverness at the weekend. This is a great game for us to come back to and hopefully get the right result.
“It’s a big match for us.
“The good thing is that it’s come round quickly after Saturday’s performance.
“If we can win tomorrow it could pick us up for Saturday and we could end up the week in the semi-final of the cup and possibly at the top of the table.
“The disappointing thing for us was the performance in Inverness, the way the game kind of petered out for us.
“We bounced back from the Kilmarnock game and got three points against Partick. It’s important to be able to do that.
“We’re talking about the chance to get into a cup semi-final, which would be a huge boost for the club.”
Donnelly and Hibs boss Alan Stubbs are former Celtic team-mates, and the United coach believes tonight’s match is a battle of two Premiership teams in all but name.
“Although they’re down a division, Hibs’ fans will demand a lot from them,” he said. “They’re one of the biggest clubs in Scotland.
“It’s been frustrating for Stubbsy so far, I think.
“But I watched the game on Sunday and they’ve got a lot of good players there. From what we took from that game we know we’ve got a real game on our hands.
“We’ll have to be at our best to get through to the next round.
“He tries to play the right way, as we do.
“I think Stubbsy is on record as saying it won’t happen overnight for them but the signs are there that he’s getting things right.
“In our pre-season game there for large parts of the game they moved the ball around well.
“We’ll probably go into it as favourites but we know we’ll have to be a lot better than we have been of late to win.”
