Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara insists the club are making progress in their bid to bolster their defence.
With out-of-contract Gavin Gunning having left to join Birmingham City, there is a vacancy at the heart of the Tangerines’ backline.
Manager Jackie McNamara has returned from his summer break to report that there could be a new arrival in just a few days’ time.
McNamara, who has been linked with Hearts captain Danny Wilson and former Newcastle loan star Curtis Good, said: “Nothing is certain yet but it looks like we could have the player we want by this time next week.
“Time will tell but I am hopeful and we have been making progress.”
Wilson, however, has shrugged off the interest shown in him by United, who have made a reported six-figure bid for the former Rangers and Liverpool player.
He said: “I don’t really know what to make of it.
“It is not something that I am really concerned with. I have spoken to the club (Hearts) and the club have rejected the offer and that is fine with me.
“I am not really fussed with that. I can’t stop teams making a bid for me, all I can do is remain professional at Hearts,” he said.
Meanwhile, Birmingham boss Lee Clark is confident Gunning will be a success despite concerns over his knee.
The Irishman, who signed for the Blues on Thursday on a one-year deal, had failed a medical at Sheffield Wednesday before making the move to the Midlands.
However, Clark said: “My medical team have completed a full medical on him and we are happy with the outcome.”
