Dundee United say they are relaxed about the interest being shown in Andy Robertson because they don’t have to sell any of their players.
English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion have had a £1 million-plus bid for the Scotland international rejected by the Tangerines.
United do not know if that marks the end of the new Baggies boss and ex-United player Alan Irvine’s interest in the flying full-back but they won’t be too concerned either way.
Chairman Stephen Thompson said: “What I would stress to our supportters is that we are in no rush to sell any player. We are in a good position as a club in that regard.”
Thompson certainly didn’t seem concerned about the possibility of either Albion coming in again or another big club entering the bidding fray.
“After the financial restructuring we went through recently, we don’t have to move anyone on this summer,” he added.
“We are trying to build something,” said Thompson. “However, if someone comes in with a bid that is too good to refuse we would make a decision we felt was best for United.”
Indeed, rather than fretting over possible departures, Thompson is spending the majority of his time working alongside manager Jackie McNamara trying to bring in new faces.
Dutch midfielder Marley Berkvens is understood to be on his way to Tannadice for a trial, while the Tangerines are now very confident of securing central defender Curtis Good back on loan from Newcastle.
Berkvens, 21, is a free agent after leaving SBV Excelsior at the end of last season.
A product of the Feyenoord youth system, the player should report for work with the rest of the squad when they return to training at St Andrews a week today.
Meanwhile, United are still trying to pencil in a home pre-season match after hopes of bringing Spanish La Liga stars Levante to Tannadice fell through.
