Dundee United new boys Charlie Telfer and Blair Spittal have been told they can win themselves a fast pass to the first team.
Manager Jackie McNamara has stated he will not hesitate to use both 18-year-olds when the new Premiership season gets under way against Aberdeen on August 9 if they show him they are worth it.
McNamara has felt the benefits of a bold youth policy when it comes to selecting his sides.
He has seen the likes of Andy Robertson, Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Gauld and John Souttar belie their tender years, so he will be sticking to that strategy when it comes to dealing with former Rangers youth Telfer and Spittal, who has arrived from Queen’s Park.
“If they can show me early on that they are good enough then they will get a chance,” said McNamara.
“Blair has had a bit more game time than Charlie.
“I think looking at the experience Blair has had and with him having seen Andy come from Queen’s Park and do well that will mean he will be aiming for the first team quickly.
“Charlie, meanwhile, is a confident lad and he has stated that he has come here to play games. I think he has fantastic attributes.
“We showed last year that regardless of where a player came from or what age he was, if they’re good enough we will use them in the first team.”
Meanwhile, United have handed a deal to Luis Zwick, rewarding the 20-year-old German goalkeeper for a successful trial at the tail end of last season.
