Ryan Gauld’s move to Sporting Lisbon isn’t a done deal, Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara stressed today.
But the offer that was made to the Tannadice club for the teenager was “too good to turn down”, he admitted.
Gauld is understood to have travelled to Lisbon today to meet with Sporting representatives and talk terms.
The bid from Portugal is for just over £2m and would rise to around £3m with add-ons.
There would also be the potential of a cut from any future transfer of the player.
McNamara said: “We have accepted a bid for Ryan and we have given him permission to speak to a club, but there are still lots of issues on both sides that have to be solved.
“From a personal and maybe selfish point of view you do want to keep a hold of these players but there comes a time when it’s just too good to turn down – not just financially but for the player himself too.”
