Callum Morris says Dundee United’s Celtic Park shocker was just not good enough.
The central defender didn’t attempt to hide from the Tangerines’ failings after they were hammered 6-1 by the Hoops on Saturday.
There have been many bad days at Parkhead for United over the years they haven’t won there since Boxing Day 1992 but this was up there with the worst of them.
The defending was disastrous at times and the dismal display was all the more surprising because they had been bang in form after beating Aberdeen and Motherwell to get their season off to an excellent start.
It all went horribly wrong for Morris and his team-mates, but at least the big Geordie was brave enough to face the media and reflect upon what happened and promise beter against Ross County at Tannadice on Saturday.
Morris said: “After two good performances we went into the game full of confidence but we were left disappointed.
“I think no matter how we had been playing beforehand, we were always going to get a difficult game against Celtic.
“We knew what to expect and that this would be the toughest of our three games so far. Now we will have to look back on it and assess it.
“We conceded four times from set-plays and that isn’t good enough in any game, never mind one against Celtic.
“Everyone, not just the manager, was disappointed with the goals we lost.
“You want to go to Celtic Park and make it as tough as possible for them, but we lost four soft goals.
“That was the hardest thing to take. Celtic played well but we didn’t acquit ourselves as well as we could have done.
“We should have been a lot tighter. We also created a few chances that maybe we should have taken.
“However, it’s over and done with now. We have to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and go on to next Saturday and try to get back on a winning streak.
“We are obviously disappointed to lose like we did but if you look at our start as a whole, we have played last season’s top three and come away with six points and two clean sheets.
“Maybe that’s not too bad but that doesn’t lessen the disappointment of this performance. It is a long season and if we can get another win next weekend then we will still be up there.”
