‘Ciftcigate’ assistant to run line at Dundee United’s cup tie in Inverness

One of the match officials at the centre of the Nadir Ciftci controversy has been appointed to run the line at Dundee United’s Scottish Cup quarter-final tie against Inverness Caley Thistle on Sunday.
Gavin Harris was involved in the controversy that surrounded United’s last cup visit to the Highland capital, the League Cup last-eight clash against ICT on October 29.
United forward Ciftci was red-carded by ref Kevin Clancy and the Tangerines went on to lose 2-1 to the home team after extra-time.
The Turk was subsequently cited for allegedly “seizing” Harris by the throat, a charge that was later amended to grabbing with an “open hand.”
Ciftci was given a two-match suspension, one of which was held over until the end of the season, while his sending-off was reduced to a yellow.
