Dundee United say Newcastle Jets interest is ‘personal venture’ by Stephen Thompson

Dundee United have stressed that a potential £2.5 million bid for Newcastle Jets is a personal “venture” for chairman Stephen Thompson and doesn’t involve the Tannadice club.
Controversial Jets owner Nathan Tinkler, who has seen his team plunge into administration and had his operating licence removed, said: “We’ve had an offer in for a couple of weeks from Dundee United.
“That offer is well in excess of the debts of the club and I’ve asked the administrator to get that sale done and that will see everyone get paid. Then, I can move on.”
However, United have moved to clarify the matter.
A spokesperson said: “Dundee United is not involved in talks with the Newcastle Jets – this is a personal venture for the chairman as part of a consortium.
“Any involvement of Mr Thompson in this or any other venture is entirely his prerogative and the board, which he remains fully committed to, is focused purely on Dundee United FC delivering a positive end to the season and building for next season.”
