Lewis Stevenson, Hibs’ longest-serving player, claims that Scott Allan would be wasting his time signing for Rangers or Dundee United because he is too good for either of them.
Allan is believed to be a transfer target for both clubs, but Stevenson thinks that he’ll stay to inspire Alan Stubbs’ side to the title and automatic promotion.
The 23-year-old midfield maestro, who scored a superb opener in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Dunfermline, is entering the final year of his contract with Hibs, but Stevenson is confident that the Easter Road side won’t attempt to cash in on their star man.
“I don’t see why he wouldn’t be the Championship’s Player of the Year again,” he said.
“There isn’t anyone near him in terms of ability. I know he’s been linked with certain teams, but I think he could aim even higher than that.
“He’s scored twice in our two games, and goals was maybe something he had to add to his game. It looks like he’s doing that now,” he said.
“He makes things happen all the time,” he added.
“I’m glad that we’ve held on to him. It seems that we’re going to keep him for at least this season, and he can make a big difference for us this year.
“To be honest, I didn’t worry that he might leave because the club is ambitious now and they know that we need to keep our best players.
“Scottie is obviously one of them and he’s going to be massive for us.
“He scored a fabulous goal against Dunfermline and he’s always looking to get on the ball and create openings,” he added.
