Former Dundee United teenager Ryan Gauld is reported to be heading back to the UK after being sent out on loan by Sporting Lisbon.

The Scotland Under-21 star moved to Portugal last year in a 2.5 million euros transfer but has only made a handful of first-team appearances for the club.

With a new head coach, Jorge Jesus, now in place at Sporting, the Portuguese have said Gauld can leave on loan to increase his first-team experience, putting clubs across the UK on alert.

Portuguese media say Sporting want Gauld to find a top club to aid his progress.
