Rodney Sneijder will leave Dundee United without starting a game for the Tangerines.
United have now confirmed the Dutch midfielder, brother of Wesley, is to part company with the Tannadice club and return home by mutual agreement for health reasons.
A statement said: “Dundee United can confirm that Rodney Sneijder’s contract with the club has been terminated by mutual agreement.”
Manager Jackie McNamara said: “This is the best solution for Rodney first and foremost. We have a responsibility to protect the player’s health moving forward and respect his current situation.”
A club spokesman added: “Everyone at Dundee United wishes Rodney all the very best for the future.
“The club will replace any replica shirt which has been purchased from Dundee United Direct and customised with the player’s name.”
Sneijder, who impressed McNamara as a trialist during their pre-season tour, came on as a substitute in the league opener against Aberdeen but hasn’t featured in a squad since.
