He’s been there, done that and has the medal to prove it but Morgaro Gomis admits he is hungry for more Scottish Cup success.
The midfielder was one of the players in Tangerine who lifted the trophy at Hampden in 2010 following their 3-0 triumph over Ross County.
The Senagalese international subsequently left Tannadice to try his luck down south with Birmingham City but is now back in Scotland for his second spell with the club.
He is hoping that Sunday’s high noon showdown with St Mirren in the fifth round of the cup will be the launching pad to take United all the way to the final again.
Gomis said: “I have a lot of good memories from 2010. Winning the cup was really nice for the fans, the players and everybody connected with Dundee United.
“When we got to the semi-final, that’s when we started thinking if we can win that game then we will be in the final. The semi-final is something special.
“I don’t see why we cannot go all the way again. We will just take it game by game and see what happens, but I really think we can do it.”
To realise those cup ambitions, United will have to end a run of seven games without a win.
However, Gomis insists that the disappointing sequence of results is not preying on the players’ minds.
He said: “We are not really thinking about not having won in seven games.
“We are just focusing on each match as it comes and hopefully we can start winning again on Sunday in the Scottish Cup against St Mirren.”
United may be desperate to return to winning ways but Gomis is just itching to get back into the team. He has not featured since the 3-0 defeat up in Ross County on January 18. However, he acknowledged that he can have no complaints considering the form of central midfielders Paul Paton and John Rankin at the moment.
He said: “I am feeling good and it is just a case of trying to get back into the team. It is not easy as even although we haven’t won in the last few games, the boys have been doing OK.
“John and Paul have been playing really well which is why I am not getting a game just now.
“So I just have to keep working hard, be patient and wait for another chance.”
