Simon Donnelly insists Dundee United’s pride will spur them on in Wednesday night’s Dens Park derby clash as they seek to continue their fine form against their rivals.
The Tangerines have won all three City of Discovery clashes this season.
United may have failed to win any of their last nine matches, but Donnelly believes having earned the derby bragging rights up until now they will be fired up to ensure that doesn’t change.
United assistant boss Donnelly said: “There is a pride element within the dressing-room because we’ve won three and want to keep that record going and it’s something the supporters obviously enjoy.
“We know it won’t be easy against Dundee but it’s something we’ll be striving for,” he said.
“We’re still in the mix for a European slot and aren’t that far behind Inverness.
“There’s plenty still to play for and they don’t come much bigger than a Dundee derby live on television,” he added.
“Paul Hartley has built a strong side who have shown they can hold their own in this division, so credit to them.”
“We’ll have to be ready for a tough match because they have a lot still to play for as well between now and the end of the season.”
